Finding Luxury in Simple Moments
This past week was one of those whirlwind weeks where taking a break seemed like a distant dream. Between work, household chores, school field trips, and kids' activities, I've been on the move non-stop. However, this chaos, there's one thing I refuse to miss—my writing workshop.
I never really considered myself a writer but honestly I find it very therapeutic. In one of the daily writing prompts the topic of luxury came up. It got me thinking deeply about what luxury truly means to me.
This took me back to a snowy November day in Michigan when we moved into our new house.We used to live in an apartment, so having a house, even if not very big, felt like a dream come true. My wish was to have an empty house where my kids could run freely without me worrying about them getting hurt or damaging anything.
We had an old couch for two in the large family room, a table for 8 in the kitchen, and a playroom. I have to be honest, over the years, my kids accumulated quite a few toys, but I made sure to organize them neatly around the room, leaving a big empty space in the middle.
We loved that setup. We ran around, played with Barbies and cars, had nerf fights, blew bubbles (who cares about the carpet, right?), laughed, and yes, we fell a lot during rough games. We were happy.
Now that the kids are older, we’ve replaced our old couch with a bigger one to fit everyone for movie nights. The playroom, It’s now home to a sad turtle we rescue and wish she could be free, a therapy swing, and a couple of play couches that sometime are a soccer goal, a fort, a stuff animal classroom, or a place to stay safe from the lava floor. They are also a good place to sit and read a good book or play video games.
For me, this is the real meaning of luxury—having a space filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
It also made me reflect on my photography business and where I want my clients to experience meaningful photoshoots. And what better place than their own homes, right?
